My name is Phoebe Walker and I am currently looking for a full scholarship to an NCAA Div 1 University starting in the Fall of 2008.
I am currently ranked within the top 5 in my State and I am ranked within the top 90 Australian female players, which continues to climb now that I have completed my schooling. I compete at the highest club level in my state as the number one player in the team and have done so for the past two years with considerable success.
For more then 5 years I have been a member of the South Australian State Tennis Program in numerous talent squads and the South Australian Optus Tennis Academy, where at one stage I was the only female member selected. I was then offered a place in the South Australian Institute of Sport, which is an academy for the highest achieving sports people in the state of South Australia.
I contributed to the success of the Marryatville High School Tennis Team. Our Team finished top over the 5 years of my schooling, making us the best tennis school in South Australia. The school was regularly ranked in the top 2 schools Australia wide.
I have also attended a Talented Athletes Program Camp. Twice I was invited to attend the Lleyton Hewitt International Tennis Camp, a camp identifying future tennis stars. I was also a member of the Junior Hopman Cup Team.
With the recent conclusion of my secondary schooling I am currently preparing to compete in ITFs, AMTs and Satellite Tournaments for the next 6 months so my ranking will continue to climb and I will be ready to perform at my peak for college tennis in America.
Tennis has been such a major part of my life that I want to continue playing in the highly competitive environment of intercollegiate tennis in the USA.
I have attached a list of most of my awards and accomplishments over the past 5 years.
Please let me know if you require further information.
Regards,
Phoebe Walker

Call it the “Super Bowl of Science.” The players at this match-up are among the brightest young minds in the United States. They are the winners of the nation’s premiere math, science and technology competition for high school students. And for the first time in the nine year-history of the Siemens Competition, girls swept the top prizes in both categories.
Isha Jain, a senior at Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, won the $100,000 scholarship in the individual category for her research on bone growth. Janelle Schlossberger and Amanda Marinoff, seniors at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School in Plainview, New York, won the $100,000 prize (which they will share) in the team category for their research on tuberculosis. All finalists walked away with scholarships ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 after having beaten out more than 1,600 contestants. There were six individuals and six team finalists.
This year’s projects include a webcam monitoring system to ensure the safe cooking of hamburgers that could help prevent E. Coli breakouts in the fast food industry; the discovery of a gene that could make tumors resistant to a common breast cancer drug; discoveries about the oceans with important implications for the global climate; and research that could lead to more effective treatment of brain tumors, the next generation of anti-tuberculosis drugs, new ways to treat Herpes Simplex Virus and even help people avoid jet lag and insomnia.

In a single word, there are "LOADS" of scholarships for nursing students regardless of their age. Also, many states offer grant or scholarship money to nursing students. Student loan forgiveness programs exist for underserved areas. In addition, I recommend completing the FAFSA form since you will be considered an independent student. Join several free membership scholarship search engines. Apply for every single scholarship you qualify for no matter the amount because it does add up. I will include free resources below. Good luck!

…the ethnicity/minority part.
I am always faced with the dilemma of having to circle "white" or "african american".
My ethnic background is Algerian, which is in the northern part of Africa. That’s African American.
But, since it is so close to Europe, and Northern African is of European descent, they are supposedly "White".
Some applications state White (including Middle Eastern)
However, I am not Middle Eastern either.
Some say I should just shade in African American, since I am technically african american and have more opportunites to get scholarships. Their logic is, since I am a minority, why be penalized for being "white".
I am so confused..my skin is not "white" and it’s not "black"
What do you think?
DISCLAIMER: This is in no way or form used to harm minorities or those of the spoken ethnicity.
Tu:
Algerians of European ancestry are traditionally referred to as "White African" or "European African". Larger populations within this classification are found in places like South Africa, Algeria and Rhodesia. Recent estimates suggest that "White Africans" represent less than eight-tenths of one percent of the population of the African continent.
As I’m sure you are aware, many of the White African Algerians are descended from French settlers. When French rule ended in Algeria in the 1960s, there were still 1 million or more European Algerians – almost one out of every six members of the population. Those numbers are much lower today.
The term "African American" is not usually used to refer to any American whose descendants can be traced to the continent of Africa, but rather only to Americans who have sub-Saharan ancestry amongst the black populations of Africa.
Algerians of European descent have intermarried with people from throughout Africa, and it’s very possible that your ancestry is mixed between a number of ethnic and racial backgrounds over the long history of your family.
Race/ethnicity questions are often difficult to answer, but the best approach is to answer them in terms of how you perceive yourself. It’s a shame that this question often arises in the sense of "Can I legitimately claim to be "X" if I think it might be of benefit to me?", and my answer is "You can legitimately claim to be "X" if that’s how you usually think of yourself, rather than how you’d like to think of yourself for temporary expediency."
Do you consider yourself an "African-American", in the sense that you are descendant of the black people of Africa? If so, then you should confidently answer this question to indicate that you are. If you’d never dream of calling yourself an African-American, but you’re hoping it might bring you more scholarship money, my own personal tendency would be to answer the question in some other manner.
The Solomonic alternative might be to select the ubiquitous "Other".
Good luck.
Oh, P.S.: I’m not "screwed up!" ;-D

Hi, I’m currently looking for information on how to get college grants or scholarships for me. I have been using stocks for a couple of years and pretty much started getting serious about my college classes. I have a 2.5 g.p.a. I just got married last week. I’m 24, living in Arkansas, and working part time. My husband is currently on unemployment. I’m going for my associates of science degree and afterward going for the next step to go towards an x-ray technician position. More likely an Bachelors degree. Enough babbling off me, please, I’m running out of stock money and I really need help and information. If anyone has any information, that will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Tami Pruett
Go to www.fastweb.com they have lots of scholarships. They have them based on your income, major, gpa, hobbies, personal info, etc.
