EmploymentCrossing.com Paying for college just got a little easier for 151 children of parents employed by Con-way Inc. and its operating companies. A total of 51 new students — along with 100 continuing students — won financial grants through this year’s Con-way Scholarship Program. Founded in 1991, Con-way established the program to support the educational pursuits of employees’ children who have demonstrated outstanding academic, extracurricular and civic achievement. The company has awarded more than $2.9 million under the initiative to date. The $60,000 in new scholarships presented this year went to students with parents employed at each of Con-way’s three main operating companies: Con-way Freight, Con-way Truckload and Menlo Worldwide Logistics. This year’s recipients plan to pursue academic majors including nursing, pre-medicine, education and computer technology. “With college costs at record levels and rising, there’s no better way we can support our employees than by helping their talented and deserving children fulfill their educational goals,” said Douglas W. Stotlar, Con-way’s president and CEO. Con-way is a $4.7 billion freight transportation and logistics services company headquartered in San Mateo, California.
